John Stevens and Brisa Stevens
Come along
to get an introduction to Mindfulness Meditation practice – it is a
great complement to one’s yoga practice, it gives great insight in how to
reduce stress, and generate more peaceful and creative states of body, mind and
emotions.
John
Stevens brings experience from 19 years as a Buddhist monk in the Theravadan
tradition in monasteries in Thailand and England. Brisa Stevens practice began 30 years ago with the Sogyal
Rinpoche from the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition.
Born with severe clubbed feet, Max spent much of the first four years
of his life with his feet confined in plaster casts and braces. After
several corrective surgeries, he was able to walk fairly well, and by
high school he had developed into a strong, competitive athlete. But it
was a powerful epiphany that spun him onto an entirely different path
than his classmates. With a new and burning imperative to understand
life’s meaning, Max immersed himself in spiritual learning and by the
age of nineteen had studied Taoism, esoteric Christianity, Sufism, and
was practicing meditation and Chi Gung diligently.
Today, Max Strom is known for inspiring and impacting the lives of
his students, teaching with the aim of personal transformation and has
become one of the most revered and respected Yoga Teachers in the US
and abroad. He founded Sacred Movement, Center for Yoga and Healing in
Los Angeles, and now travels extensively teaching and lecturing on yoga
and spirituality. Renowned for his teacher trainings, he is currently
leading teacher trainings internationally. You can see more of his work
on his DVDs, Max Strom Yoga – Strength, Grace, and Healing, and Learn
to Breathe, to heal yourself and your relationships. www.maxstrom.com
Strength, Grace,
and Healing
Saturday, September 25th 2010 : 10am - 12pm
2-hours all levels
The intent of yoga is not only to increase our
strength and flexibility, but also to promote health and vitality. The
next layer is to transform our behavior from coarse to gracious, and to
transform even our very thoughts, from chaos to beauty. Experience Max
Strom’s unique prana-flow class, with emphasis on emotional
transformation. Class will include a short talk, vinyasa-flow, balance
poses, breathing, and meditation.
Cost: $45 (if registered prior to September 20th, $50 after September 20th)
The Healing Power of Forgiveness
Saturday, September 25th 2010: 3pm - 6pm
3-hours all levels
Forgiveness is perhaps the most powerful tool
we have for healing ourselves. To forgive another, heals oneself, just
as anger toward another poisons oneself. Anger and resentment destroy
our lives. For the body to heal, often times what is most vital is to
heal the broken heart or spirit. Failure to forgive affects our stress
level, power to heal the body, discernment, and all our relationships.
The first part of this seminar is a powerful lecture on forgiving
others, the second part will address forgiving oneself, and the third
part include gentle yoga movement, breathing exercises, and guided
meditation with emphasis on emotional transformation. Appropriate for
all levels.
Cost: $50 (if registered prior to
September 20th, $55 after September 20th)
Heart-Core Yoga Sunday, September 26th 2010 : 9:30am - 11:30am
2-hours all levels
Is it possible that
your hard body, so rigorously constructed, is really a means of
building armor, to protect yourself? This vigorous class will not only
focus on core strength and healthy physical alignment, but will also
invoke the question of our “life alignment.” An aligned body is healthy
– an aligned heart and mind is even healthier. This unique vinyasa
practice is designed to awaken the strength of the body and the healing
power of the heart. Class will include vinyasa-flow, non-dogmatic
philosophy, a dynamic breathing session, and meditation
Cost: $45 (if registered prior to
September 20th, $50 after September 20th)
Refining
Communication
Sunday, September 26th 2010: 3:30pm - 5:30pm
Seminar for Yoga teachers and teachers in
training
2 hours
People often assume
that their favorite teachers are able to speak clearly, concisely, and
lovingly because they were born that way. But this is rarely true. Teachers who excel with communication often simply work harder at it and
never stop studying and improving their art of teaching. This seminar
offers several techniques for refining and empowering your ability to
communicate what you want to say in the tone you want to say it with. The practical principles you will learn in this workshop will take you
to new levels in your teaching and inspire you for weeks to come. Bring
your mat and writing materials. (Please no recording equipment)
Cost: $45 (if registered prior to
September 20th, $50 after September 20th)

Quote:
When we are in pain, we become self-centered
and myopic. When we heal, we become more empathetic, self-less, and
sympathetic to the pain and welfare of others. It is our gift to others
to heal ourselves.
